Philip Sack joins the team at the European Study Group

European Study Group is delighted to announce that Philip Sack will be joining its team with effect from Monday 6th June 2005.

Philip’s skills in the field of employee information and consultation are much valued. He has had a successful career at the Department of Trade and Industry, where in his last position he led the DTI team responsible for drawing up the Information & Consultation of Employees Regulations. In addition, he wrote the government’s Official Guidance on the new law. Having led the consultation phase of the I&C Regulations, with both business and the trade unions, Philip has both a deep technical and a practical knowledge, and his drive and commitment to delivering high performance workplace solutions will bring great value to European Study Group and its Member Companies.

He has spoken at numerous seminars, explaining the new I&C law to companies and advising them how to make the most of the flexibility in the law to the benefit of their businesses.

He was also the senior official in the DTI with responsibility for legislation on European Works Councils and collective redundancies and was the UK’s lead negotiator in Brussels on recent and forthcoming EU Directives on employee involvement.

Philip previously held posts in the DTI advising Ministers on corporate law and governance issues, including takeovers and mergers, and on EC competition law. He spent a period on secondment as a senior policy advisor to the telecoms regulator, OFTEL.

European Study Group Member Companies are very fortunate to have access not only to Philip’s highly relevant technical skills, but also to his knowledge of and experience in the corridors of power in Brussels, Westminster, and other European capital cities.

Philip says: ‘All the evidence suggests that employees want to be better informed and consulted at work. The challenge is for employers to improve their I&C arrangements in a way that both meets employees’ expectations and adds value to their business. European Study Group is the perfect vehicle for me to work alongside some of the UK’s leading businesses, as they adopt and embed I&C to ensure high performance in the workplace and as the EU Commission reviews the EWC Directive.’
